מוזיאון אילנה גור הוא ראשית ומעל הכול, בית מגורים. הוא ניחן בחמימות ובאופי הנמצאים רק בבית שגרים בו. ולא בכדי – מוזיאון אילנה גור הוא גם ביתה של אילנה, והוא נפתח לציבור המבקרים ב-1995. עד היום ביקרו בו מעל 500,000 איש.

הבניין תוכנן ונבנה לפני 260 שנה כדי לשכן עולי רגל יהודים שהגיעו לנמל יפו, לפני שהמשיכו בדרכם אל עיר הקודש, ירושלים.

כותלי האבן המאסיביים של הבניין על הקשתות החינניות שלו והשלווה האופפת אותו, משקפים שנים של השקעה מצד אילנה בשחזור הבניין ובהשבת תפארתו מימי קדם – ואין ספק שהיא הצליחה בכך. שילוב האווירה הייחודית של עיר נמל בת 4,000 שנה עם האנרגיה התוססת של אמנות מודרנית – מוזיאון אילנה גור הוא התגלמות העקרונות המנחים את אילנה ביצירתה: ישן לצד חדש, וכפרי ומסורתי לצד התעשייתי והחדשני.

בבניין עצמו אפשר להבחין בשילוב מופלא בין הקווים הארכיטקטוניים המעודנים שלו לבין ההצבה המחושבת היטב של יצירות האמנות המוצגות בו. את הטון נותן נוף הים עוצר הנשימה הנצפה כמעט מכל חלון.

The Ilana Goor Museum, above all, is a home. It has a warmth and character that only a home can exude. And this is no coincidence – the Ilana Goor Museum is also part of Ilana's private home that was opened to the public in 1995 and has seen over 200,000 visitors. The building was designed and built 250 years ago to welcome Jewish pilgrims upon their arrival at the Jaffa Port before continuing on to the holy city of Jerusalem. Its massive walls of golden rock, graceful arches, and calming atmosphere reflect years of work by Ilana to restore the building to its former glory – and by all accounts she has succeeded magnificently. Merging the unique laid-back atmosphere of a 4,000 year old city-on-the-sea with the vibrant energy of modern art, the Ilana Goor Museum embodies the principles that guide Ilana in her work: the old with the new, and the rural and traditional along side the industrial and cutting-edge. The building itself combines the refined splendor of the museum's architecture with the carefully-thought-out positioning of the art work displayed all around, while the overall atmosphere is shaped by the breathtaking view of the sea visible through almost every window.
